The Cannabis Cafe, which opened this month in Portland, Oregon is the first marijuana cafe of its kind in the country. Although it doesn’t sell marijuana on the premises, the Cannabis Café allows any of Portland’s estimated 21,000 licensed medical-marijuana users a space to consume marijuana in a social setting.

OK, a couple of things I should tell you: This is an audience recording. I recorded it on my iPhone. The quality is therefore not at all excellent. I’ve done my best to make it listenable, but the laughter is loud, and you can clearly hear myself and my friend Nick chuckling our asses off the whole time. We also missed the first 10 minutes or so of the show. (No…we WERE NOT trying to smoke a joint in the parking lot.) But. BUT: This is truly one of the best stand-up performances I have ever seen, and I would really like to share it with you. So here you go. It’s Silly Sunday. Enjoy.

Back in the United States, Republican senators have blocked debate on a measure to freeze credit card interest rates. Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd had written a bill that would have prevented interest rate hikes before new regulations take effect next year. But on Wednesday, Republicans thwarted Dodd’s attempt to debate the measure on the Senate floor.

Right. Of course. Democrats have the decency to at least pretend they have people’s best interests at heart. Republicans seem to flaunt the fact that they do not.

Improved Retweet Avatars (via lhl)

This greasemonkey script modifies how avatars are displayed for Twitter’s new Retweet functionality into something that I think makes more sense: the retweeter’s avatar (whom you are following) is restored to the primary view, and an inset is added for the retweet source.

Ya know, if you care about that sort of thing. I think it makes more sense. I’m finding the current way a little too jarring.
